SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy, the first body in Greece active in the field of Cultural Diplomacy, continues its activities in Thessaloniki, in good cooperation with the Olympic Museum-Protergia, by organizing a day on Sports Diplomacy, as one of the manifestations of Cultural Diplomacy.
Specifically, the Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy and the Olympic Museum-Protergia, organize on Friday 4/5/2018, at 17:30, the first day of Sports Diplomacy, which will take place in the amphitheater of the Olympic Museum-Protergia. The two bodies, on the occasion of the contribution of the Olympic Games and in general of the major sporting events in events of unification and networking of peoples, jointly open the dialogue on the dynamics of Sports Diplomacy, projecting it as a potential supply for stimulating bilateral, multilateral and international relations of cities, states and cultures, but also to promote their strategic positions.
The aim of the conference is to highlight the important role of Sports Diplomacy as an integral part of public diplomacy and at the same time to highlight its importance as a tool of Diplomacy in achieving sports relations and international cooperation, which promote the goals of a country’s foreign policy.
The conference will be attended by institutions and representatives of cultural, sports and diplomatic bodies, who with their knowledge and recognized prestige, will raise current and important issues related to the common vision of Sport and its use as a comparative advantage of promoting culture. highlighting internationally the special identity of a country and at the same time forming a strong brand name, capable of beautifying its image on the world stage.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLABORATING BODIES
The Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy (HICD) was founded in Athens on March 25, 2017. It is a Greek Scientific non-profit company and is the first and only institution of Cultural Diplomacy in Greece. Collaborates with private and public bodies and organizations, in Greece and abroad, as well as with HEIs and other Academic intellectual institutions or research centers in general, artistic groups, theaters and orchestras with the aim of promoting art, research and innovation.
The Olympic Museum- Protergia– unique in Greece recognized by the Greek and International Olympic Committee – tells one of the most fascinating stories of humanity, that of the Olympic Games. In the heart of Thessaloniki, at the crossroads of culture, sports and education, the Olympic Museum-Protergia bridges the past with the present, aiming to highlight the Olympic spirit and our cultural heritage.
An active and founding member of the World Network of Olympic Museums (2006, under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee, Lausanne), the Olympic Museum-Protergia operates nationally and internationally. A member of the International Sports and Heritage Association (ISHA) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the Museum has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education, Research & Religions, with museums in the Balkans and Europe and the Olympism For Humanity Alliance, with which it shares a common vision. He has also signed cooperation agreements with all the members of the Greek Olympic family, the National Olympic Academy, the Association of Greek Olympians, the International Olympic Truce Center & the Marathon Run Museum.
The purpose of founding the Museum is to record and promote our sports and Olympic history and to highlight it in a “living” space, with an educational character, where museum information mobilizes the public in interaction, thus promoting the high ideals of sports and Olympic ideal. The Olympic Museum-Protergia, as the custodian and exponent of the Olympic spirit, has a special duty to maintain and communicate to young people the Olympic / universal values, which are the cornerstone of sports and Olympic Education and to promote the philosophy of Olympism as a way of life especially to the new generation, thus contributing to the formation of a better society for all.
